Master Your Stress: Mindfulness, Communication, Control

Stress .. the monster many adults can’t seem to run away from. Once it catches you, how do you defeat it?

I believe stress stems from fear and lack of control. When we are threatened by challenges we can start procrastinating, alter our behavior and/or completely shut down. Understanding the relationships between our fears, stress and control can help empower you instead.

Here are 3 tips to help you regain a sense of balance and peace when you feel stressed out!

  1. Practice Mindfulness – this can be a simple breathing exercise, yoga/stretching, go for a walk, or meditation. Engaging in these activities allows your mind to reset and refocus. Staying calm and centered is important.
  2. Talk to Someone – Holding our problems in doesn’t always help. Once you have calmed your thoughts, it’s important to express your feelings. This can involve reaching out to a trusted friend, family member, or even a professional. Talking about what you are experiencing can also lead to valuable insights or solutions. These are things that you might not have considered when dealing with your thoughts alone. Having an open and honest conversation can be a step towards healing and understanding your feelings better.
  3. Control – While stress creates the sense of chaos, you can’t let it control you. Taking the time to remember what YOU have control over can help center your thoughts and emotions. Recognizing your own control in stressful moments allows you to navigate through challenges with clarity and purpose. It will empower you.

Being aware of our stress and how we manage it benefits both us and our kids! Practicing mindfulness and open communication creates a much more positive environment. By modeling these behaviors, we are teaching our kids how to navigate their won challenges with confidence.

The next time you feel stressed out, remember to take a step back, breathe, and recognize your resilience. You got this!
